Golang Job Details

Overview: As a part of the Cloud One team at Trend Micro, your role will be to manage the development of high-quality cloud-native services on AWS. You will serve as the people manager for the developers on several teams, responsible for performance evaluations, career development, and recruiting.

This is a technical and managerial role requiring proven service/software architecture abilities, excellent communication skills, and strong planning and prioritization. Your job will be to map out of the road ahead and clear it of anything standing in the team’s way - whether technical problems, coordination issues, or lack of solid requirements. If you enjoy the big picture and can make the tough calls to get the product shipped, then we want to talk to you.

As a development manager for Cloud One, in your day-to-day you will:

  • Weigh in on technical discussions and decisions related to architecture/implementation of rich AWS Cloud Native applications
  • Support teams of 5-8 in their sprint/kanban process to achieve regular business and customer outcomes, including backlog grooming, priority calls, writing requirements and fixing bottlenecks
  • Stay in the loop and up to date with the technical work of the teams, including writing code.
  • Take time for learning and continuous improvement, with opportunities to learn and teach skills across teams

In your product owner capacity, you will:

  • Communicate with service leads on integrations and changes, and manage conflicts between different service/teams needs
  • Hold some ownership of communications/planning/integration for related areas of Cloud One
  • Guide development priorities and trade-offs in concert with PM and while keeping the customer experience top of mind
  • Spend time in JIRA, where you own projects from the Workstream down, and translate the big picture into clear requirements and acceptance criteria for epics and important stories

In your people management capacity, you will also be responsible for:

  • One on one meetings with all your direct reports at least once per month
  • Recruiting for your teams - from writing and A/B testing job descriptions to reviewing resumes, interviewing, making offers and finally selling the position to candidates & onboarding.
  • Talent alignment twice a year: evaluating the current impact vs. growth potential of your direct reports, to identify the best prospects for investment in career development
  • Annual salary review, and the joyful or tough conversations to share the resulting salary impacts with your direct reports
  • Guiding and improving the team culture

More prosaically, you will also:

  • Stay up to date on people management topics and practices within Trend Micro including logistics (e.g. what laptops can we get our people), what training is available, recruiting info, etc.
  • Support team members with HR/IT/admin issues when needed - providing resources and information, answering questions, escalating issues etc.
  • Manage and approve vacation and expense requests

Key qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with application development, including programming experience with Java, Golang, Python and/or JavaScript
  • 1+ years of experience with AWS Cloud native application development including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.
  • Passion for developing people.
  • Experience with microservice architectures, REST API development and/or event-driven architectures
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, managing uncertainties, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communications skills across technical and non-technical topics and team members
  • Passionate about delivering great products and enabling teams to build great products.

At Trend Micro, we embrace change, empower people, and encourage innovation in a connected world. Our diversity and multicultural workforce are key contributing factors to our success across the globe. Trend Micro welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
